Why DeskAli is different

Everyone else answers the phone.
We help you get paid.

An AI receptionist that just takes messages leaves you exactly where you were: at the kitchen table at 9pm, writing quotes. DeskAli carries the job the whole way, from the missed call to the money in your account.

1. The call gets answered

Ali picks up in your business name, works out the job, and captures the customer's name, mobile, email and address, while you're up a ladder.

  • Keep the number on your van
  • Customer saved automatically, no typing

2. You put a price on it

Open the job, type what it costs, hit send. Your customer gets a proper quote carrying your logo, your ABN and your licence number, by email and text.

  • Looks like your business, not ours
  • Works without a call too, quote anyone, any time

3. They tap Pay. You're paid.

Card payment straight into your own bank account, deposit or full amount. You see it land the moment it happens.

  • 0% commission, every cent is yours
  • Set up in about five minutes
0% commission

Send a $200 job or a $20,000 job, and DeskAli takes nothing from either. You pay your monthly plan and that's the end of it. The card fee goes to Stripe, the rest goes to you. No clip of the ticket, no per-invoice fee, no percentage. That is not how the other lot do it.

Plumber, sparky, chippy, bricklayer, concreter, cleaner, locksmith, HVAC, mobile mechanic, salon. You can run the whole thing in here. Customers, jobs, calendar, quotes, deposits, invoices and payments. Ali answering the phone is one tool in the box, not the box.

Ali

AI Receptionist · Brisbane

"I'd rather ask you twice than write it down wrong once."
Meet Ali

DeskAli is the company. Ali is who answers the phone.

She's not a person, and she'll tell your customer that in her first sentence, every call, no exceptions. What she is, is the front desk you'd hire if you could find one: calm at 2am, quick on a bad line, and completely uninterested in guessing.

Ali is a character, not a costume. She has a way of working, and you can read it off any transcript: she asks rather than assumes, reads the address back before she commits it, and reads prices off your rate card, never her own arithmetic.

  • Calm. A rushed caller on a truck's hands-free doesn't rattle her.
  • Quick. Answers as soon as your carrier forwards the call, then captures the job.
  • Honest. "I'm not sure, let me put you through" beats a confident wrong answer.
  • Yours. She learns your suburbs and your rules because you teach her.
Solutions

Three jobs. One Ali.

Not a chatbot bolted to a phone line. A front desk that understands your work, your area and your customers, and gets better every week because you're the one teaching her.

The Call Desk

Ali answers when your carrier sends the call to DeskAli, while you're under a sink, behind the wheel, or asleep.

  • Keep the number you already advertise
  • Urgent messages captured with callback context
  • Call record and transcript in your dashboard; recording when available

Address Capture

The part everyone else fumbles. Ali knows Yeronga from Yeerongpilly, and reads it back before she commits.

  • Every suburb, venue and terminal in your patch
  • Read back for the caller to confirm
  • Unsure? She asks. She never guesses.

Ready to Review

After the call, the transcript, recording, booking details and owner alert are together in DeskAli.

  • Straight into your DeskAli dashboard
  • Booking details saved while the caller is still on the line
  • One-way calendar subscription for accepted bookings
Anatomy of a call

What Ali is actually doing in those forty seconds.

Not magic, and not a script tree. Five moves, in order, on every call, and you can audit each one in the transcript afterwards.

  1. Greet, and come clean

Your business name, then the disclosure, she's an AI, the call's recorded. First sentence, every time, not buried at the end.

"You've reached Unison Transfers, I'm Ali, an AI assistant, and this call's recorded." Recording disclosure stored with the call
  2. Work out what they actually want

Callers don't speak in form fields. "Car Thursday morning, airport run" is a one-way transfer with a flight deadline, Ali resolves the job type before she starts collecting details, so she asks the right questions and not all of them.

  3. Confirm the address, the bit that earns the money

She uses your loaded vocabulary, then reads the address back and spells the hard part. The caller confirms it before the booking is saved; DeskAli does not claim external address-database verification.

"Got it, Yeronga, corner of Park Road and Villa Street. That's a Y-E-R-O-N-G-A." Confirmed with the caller before it's written down
  4. Read the rate card. Don't do sums.

If the job maps to a rate you've given her, she quotes it exactly. If it doesn't, an odd run, a hard-to-price extra, she says so and offers you or a callback. She has no authority to invent a number, and that's a deliberate design decision, not a gap.

  5. Book it, or hand it over warm

Straight into your DeskAli bookings and calendar. If it needs you, she transfers with the story already told, you pick up knowing the name, the suburb and the job, not "putting a call through now".

Call record and transcript in your dashboard; recording when available
Why DeskAli

Most AI receptionists sound Australian. Ali listens like one.

Every competitor sells you an Australian voice. That's the bit the customer hears, and it's the bit that doesn't matter. What matters is whether the thing on the other end understood "Coorparoo" the first time, at speed, over a truck engine.

That's where these systems actually break. Not the conversation, the data. Speech recognition trained on Australian English still stumbles hardest on named entities: suburbs, streets, venues. And a limo booking is two Australian place names and a time. A misheard suburb isn't a glitch, it's a lost job, a wasted run, and a customer who rings someone else next time.

  • 1 Your patch, loaded in

Suburbs, streets, venues, hotels, terminals and the regulars who ring you by name.

  • 2 Read back before she books

Spelled out where it counts. Confirmed with the caller. Then, and only then, written down.

  • 3 Honest when she's stuck

No invented addresses, no invented prices. She asks, or she puts you on.

Train It Yourself

Nobody knows your business well enough to set this up for you.

Everyone else "custom trains and manages it for you", which is a polite way of saying you'll wait a week for a change, and pay for the privilege. It's also why they can't scale: every customer is a support ticket. We think that's backwards. You know your rates, your suburbs, your regulars and your rules. So you teach her.

Listen to a real call in your dashboard. Hear Ali get something wrong. Click the mistake, type what she should have said. The preferred wording is loaded from the next call, together with your other saved vocabulary and corrections.

  • AWhat she knows

Services, rates, vehicles, coverage, the questions you're sick of answering.

  • BHow she behaves

How it works

Answering on Thursday. Properly good by Christmas.

No integration project. No consultant. No six-week onboarding.

Tell us about the business

Ten minutes of plain questions, what you do, where you go, what you charge, when to ring you.

Point your calls at Ali

Divert your existing number, or take a new local one. Nothing on your phone changes.

Listen in

Calls Ali handles are recorded, transcribed and summarised. Watch her work before you trust her with the busy ones.

Sharpen her

Correct what she got wrong. Every fix is permanent, and it compounds. Month three is not month one.

Honest comparison

Ali isn't the right answer for everyone.

A rigged comparison table is just a lie with borders on it. Here's where each option genuinely wins, so you can pick the one that fits.

What matters DeskAli (Ali) Generic AI receptionist Human answering service
Australian place-name handling Suburb and venue vocabulary loaded for your patch and read back for the caller to confirm before booking. Australian voice, generic ears. Handles common suburbs; stumbles on the awkward ones, which are the ones you drive to. Best in class if the operator is local. A Manila or Melbourne call centre taking a Coorparoo booking has the same problem.
Who trains it You do. Click the mistake in a real call, type the preferred wording, and it is loaded from the next call. They do, on their timetable. Changes go through support and you wait. You brief a team. It sticks as well as staff turnover allows.
Recording & consent Announced in the greeting and the disclosure is stored with the call. If a caller objects, Ali ends the recorded call. Usually configurable, rarely explained. Consent is your problem. Generally handled, though standards vary widely between providers.
Transfer with context Takes an urgent message with the name, suburb and job so your team can call back with context. Varies. Often a cold hand-off or a message you decode later. Good, a human can brief a human. That's the format's real strength.
Judgement on the weird ones Limited, honestly. She won't invent an answer, she'll transfer or take a message. Genuinely unusual calls still want you. Same limitation, sometimes with more confidence than it's earned. The clear winner. A person can read a situation Ali can't.
Pricing transparency A stated monthly minute allowance. No automatic overage charge; repeated excess usage requires a plan review. Often "unlimited" with an undisclosed cap, or per-call pricing that moves. Per-call or per-minute, and typically the most expensive per answered call.
Answers at 2am Yes, same as 2pm, at the same price. Yes. Yes, usually at an after-hours premium.
The guardrails

What Ali will never do.

Every one of these is a thing she's capable of and deliberately not allowed to do. The limits are the product.

Never pretend to be human

She says she's an AI in her first sentence, on every call, and there's no switch to turn it off. Pretending otherwise is misleading conduct under s18 of the Australian Consumer Law, and a real slice of callers hang up on a bot that lies about it anyway.

Never invent a quote

Prices come off the rate card you gave her, or they don't come out of her mouth. She does no arithmetic of her own. A made-up number is a dispute you'll be arguing about in a fortnight.

Never guess an address

If a suburb or street doesn't resolve cleanly, she asks again or spells it out. A confident wrong address costs you a wasted run and a customer.

Never record in silence

The recording is announced in the greeting and that disclosure is stored with the call. If a caller objects, Ali ends the recorded call.

Never promise what you can't do

Outside your coverage, your hours, or your vehicle types, she says no and offers a callback. An accepted job you can't run is worse than a lost one.

Never train on your business

Your recordings, customers and rates stay in your account. The only thing shared across DeskAli is Australian place names, how to hear a suburb, nothing else.

Questions

The things you'd actually ask.

Is Ali a real person?

No, and she says so on every call. Ali is the name and the personality we've given the assistant, a name is easier for a caller to talk to than a product noun, and it's what your customer will hear. It is not a disguise. There is no point in the conversation where Ali claims to be human, and no setting that lets her.

Do my customers get told it's an AI?

Yes, always, in the first sentence, and we won't turn that off. Partly because pretending otherwise is misleading conduct under Australian Consumer Law, and partly because it's the right thing to do. In our experience callers don't mind a machine that's upfront and gets it right. They mind being tricked.

What happens when Ali doesn't know something?

She says so, and offers to put you on or take a message. She will never invent a price or an availability. Quoting reads from the rate card you give her, she never does the sums herself, because a made-up quote is a dispute you'll be arguing about in a fortnight.

Are calls recorded? Is that even legal?

When recording is enabled, Ali announces it in the greeting and the disclosure is stored with the call. If a caller objects, Ali ends the recorded call. Recording law varies by location and circumstance, so each business remains responsible for confirming that its use is lawful and for obtaining legal advice where needed.

Can I keep my existing number?

Yes. Most operators divert their advertised number to Ali, after hours, when engaged, or always. You can disable that diversion with your carrier's phone code. We can also give you a new local number if you'd rather keep them separate.

Why is there no "unlimited calls" plan?

Because it's not real. Every minute costs us money in telephony and compute, so anyone selling "unlimited" is either capping you quietly or losing money, and a supplier losing money on you is not a supplier you want holding your phone line. We show you the meter and price honestly above it.

How long until Ali's actually good?

She handles ordinary calls from day one. She gets genuinely sharp over the first month, as you correct her. That's not a limitation we're apologising for, it's the design. An assistant that learns your suburbs, your regulars and your rules beats one that was configured once by a stranger and never touched again.

Are you using my calls to train other people's assistants?

Your recordings, transcripts, customers and rates are yours and stay in your account. The one thing shared across DeskAli is Australian place names, if you teach Ali how to hear a suburb, every operator gets that. Nothing about your business, your customers or your pricing goes anywhere near it.

Ring Ali. Right now.

Don't take our word for it, no demo video, no sales call first. Talk to her like a customer would, throw a hard address at her, and see what she does with it.
